Residential Life provides facilities, services, and programs that support the academic mission of the institution and enhance quality of life for students who live on campus.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Assignment Services, the incumbent will be responsible for the overall administration and client relations of the UMBC Conference Program.  This includes marketing, implementation, and assessment of services.  In addition, this position provides year-round oversight of community desk operations.  This involves hiring and training of approximately 100 desk staffers and 60 summer conference staffers.  The incumbent will represent UMBC to several key stakeholders, outside constituents, and vendors.    Specific duties include:

  • Coordinate desk operations for administrative processes to include opening/closing (regular check-in and check-out and express check out procedures).
  • Monitor guest management, key/card access control database, and desk safety and security procedures.
  • Coordinate summer conference arrivals and departures.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate desk managers, desk staff, and summer conference staff including writing and updating staff training and procedural manuals which include guidelines, procedures, and practices for all areas of community desk and conference operations.
  • Work directly with Event and Conference Services (ECS) and conference group leaders to ensure proper roster data and conference group numbers.
  • Work directly with housekeeping to insure summer conference room readiness and monitor linen service.
  • Attend ECS summer conference planning meetings.
  • Promote and market UMBC conference facilities/services to potential conference groups. 
  • Work with ECS, Admissions, and Institutional Advancement staff to market UMBC to potential new students attending conferences.
  • Work directly with ECS to ensure proper university conference marketing, university outreach, and continuity of service.
  • Oversee the security of client records, including compliance with University requirements.  Initiate summer conference billing. 
  • Coordinate background checks of all summer desk staff. 
  • Work collaboratively with all units within Residential Life to include: a) Facilities for safety, security, maintenance, technology, and housekeeping; b) Residential Education for coordination of community director(s) assigned to assist with summer conference program and recruitment and hiring of summer conference staff; c) Student Conduct for assistance with behavioral issues and concerns, procedures, protocols, student personnel accountability, etc.; d) Assignment Services for coordination with daily operation and service during the academic and summer conference seasons.
  • Serve as on-call duty contact resource person during the summer conference season by utilizing a summer conference duty phone. 
  • Serve as resource person for community desk operations.
  • Serve as essential personnel when required.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise Graduate Assistant(s) for Desk Operations and Summer Housing Intern.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree
  • Two years in Higher Education or Events and Conference Services
