The Choice Program at UMBC provides mentoring and advocacy services to young people throughout the state of Maryland. We utilize an anti-racist, community-based, family-centered approach in order to promote high quality outcomes for young people and families. We engage in a collaborative process of service where young people set goals for themselves and are held accountable by supportive adults along the way. Our approach to youth development is grounded in applied critical race theory and culturally responsive, trauma-informed practices. Position Overview:

The Personnel Coordinator (PC) ensures that well-qualified staff and AmeriCorps Members are poised to provide high quality, direct services to young people. As such, the PC is a key member of the Personnel & Staffing team, contributing to the overall culture of the organization. Due to the nature of the work flow and level of responsibility, this individual may be required to go beyond a 40-hour work week, including occasional evening and weekend work. The position may require limited travel.

A hybrid telework schedule may be available for Maryland residents. 

Specific Duties Include:
  • Administers operational recruitment needs, including consulting with hiring managers to determine effective recruitment strategies to attract highly qualified and diverse applicant pools. 
  • Evaluates candidates for positions. 
  • Participates in on-boarding of new employees.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one year of experience in Human Resources or Human Services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Position requires use of automobile and valid driver's license


Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Two or more years of experience in Human Resources or Human Services
  • A service year with organizations such as AmeriCorps
