Position Overview:

Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery is seeking a customer-focused Library Services Supervisor with supervisory experience to join our team this January. The selected candidate will supervise staff and student assistants who work during the evening hours in the Circulation department of the Library.

As a member of the Circulation department’s leadership team, the Library Services Supervisor will collaborate on strategic priorities, supervision of student assistants, training goals and policies and procedures for the department at large. 

The position will ensure that library services are performed safely and efficiently, and library users are served courteously, promptly and in accordance with the Public Services Division’s values of approachability, cooperation, diversity and inclusion, professionalism and excellent quality of work. 

The work schedule for this position is Monday to Thursday 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday 12 noon to 8:30 p.m. or Friday 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. This work schedule is subject to change, based on changes in library hours and staffing needs. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Three years of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position with at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

  • Knowledge of the nature and functions of libraries as well as organizational and problem solving skills.  

  • Ability to work independently and exercise initiative in applying rules, procedures and instructions

  • Ability to work professionally with diverse individuals 

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply principles of quality customer service, teamwork and conflict resolution.

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Demonstrated skill in planning and coordinating work of others 

  • Demonstrated skill in motivating and training staff  

  • Demonstrated familiarity and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Google Suite applications (e.g., mail, calendar)

Salary: Pay Range 12 (starting at $47,951) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program
