The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is an Honors University located in Baltimore, Maryland. As a member of the America East Conference, the UMBC Retrievers are a Division I program that sponsor teams in eight men's and nine women's NCAA sanctioned sports.


In collaboration with the Director of Athletics, the incumbent will be charged with leading UMBC’s Women's Soccer Team and is expected to identify, evaluate and recruit student-athletes that can be successful athletically, academically and socially in a Division I environment.  Specific duties include: player development (practice planning and skill instruction, game management, attention to academics and commitment to community service); recruiting and retaining academically and athletically qualified student-athletes; overseeing all administrative responsibilities (scheduling, team travel, balancing the budget, and hiring, supervising and evaluating assistant coaches); cultivating relationships with alumni; working with Athletics Department staff around fundraising, special events and appearances; and performing other duties as assigned.  As part of the Athletics, Recreation and Physical Education staff, coaches are expected to teach 1 or 2 physical education classes during the year.  It is expected that the successful candidate will abide by all written policies and procedures of the Department of Athletics, UMBC, the America East Conference (AEC), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and three (five preferred) years of high level coaching experience preferably at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications: 

One to three years of head coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.  Playing experience at the collegiate level preferred.  Individuals with knowledge or understanding of mid-major universities are highly desired.
