The Department has 350 undergraduate majors and 16 graduate students in a non-traditional Visual Arts department. B. A. and B. F. A. degrees are offered in the following areas: Animation (B. A. , B. F. A.), Cinematic Arts (B. A. , B. F. A.), Graphic Design (B. A. , B. F. A.), Intermedia (B. F. A.), Photography (B. A. , B. F. A.), Print Media (B. A. , B. F. A.), Art History & Museum Studies (B. A.). We also offer an M. F. A. program in Intermedia and Digital Arts (IMDA).

Position Overview:

The Program Specialist provides curricular and administrative support to the Department of Visual Arts graduate and undergraduate programs. This includes the Intermedia and Digital Art (IMDA) graduate program, as well as the Foundations, Graphic Design, and Art History & Museum Studies undergraduate programs.

Telework:

Responsibilities:

The Specialist acts as a studio manager, graduate assistant supervisor, and liaison between the department and facilities management, the Graduate Program Director (GPD) and the Graduate School, and undergraduate Area Coordinators in Art History and Museum Studies (AHMS), Foundations, and Graphic Design. This position supports the graduate studio space with access, safety, and the department with inventory support. This position requires a self-motivated person possessing a variety of technical and administrative skills at a professional level.

 

This position is central to the department’s mission of delivering a state-of-the-art education in learning environments that enable students to experiment with multiple media platforms. The staff person will become part of the department’s staff team and, with them, will participate in planning, coordinating, implementing and directing the department’s varied strategies to increase the efficiency and access to instructional media platforms for student learning and faculty research in pursuit of the department’s mission of creativity, collaboration, community, critical thinking, and professionalism.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage studios and equipment needs
  • Placing and tracking supply orders via system
  • Gather quotes for major purchases when needed
  • Coordinate graduate program's events and orientation
  • Supervise and support graduate students in completion of duties
  • Inventory custodian
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required: Requires a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Studio Art, or degree in a related field.

Experience Required: A minimum of two years of experience and background in art and/or design is required.

Please note:

Ability to lift load up to 25 pounds and moving equipment on carts and light classroom furniture.

Using hand tools during equipment maintenance and simple repairs.

Standing on concrete floors for extended periods while maintaining or fixing equipment.

Position requires occasional travel to the Lion Brother's Building in Baltimore.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Education Preferred: A Master’s of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Studio Art, or an advanced degree in a related field is preferred.

Experience Preferred: Three or more years of experience and background in art and/or design, with experiences using 3D printers, Laser Cutters, CNC machines, and managing studio supplies is preferred.

Salary:

Salary: $50,000 - $59,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
